This World is Getting Crazy
Whether you are a first responder or a civilian, there probably is not a day that goes by that you don’t experience someone telling you the world has lost its mind. We’re reminded, far more often than we care, that things have gotten out of hand and the world is a dark place.
Every time I hear this, however, I’m not shocked or surprised. Having spent the past (32) years in law enforcement in Los Angeles, I formed the opinion that the world has been a dark, evil place for the past three decades that I’ve been exposed to it, so I’m not surprised by any turn of events in the recent past. For those of us in law enforcement or on the front lines, we’ve seen this darkness on a daily basis. We know evil exists. Most people shy away, run from, or avoid such evil, but those of us on the front lines are thrust in the middle of it whether we want to be or not. It is the nature of our profession.
However, it is imperative for us to know and remember that evil has existed since the beginning of time. We, as first responders, have been entrusted by our Creator to be protectors of the innocent flock. This act of obedience to Him does not exempt us from walking into that darkness. Instead of putting your head in the sand or pretending not to notice the darkness, like many in our world today, we must put on the armor of God and go directly at it, face first remembering that WE are image bearers of Christ.
We are not called to run away from darkness or evil, but we are commanded to run toward it and be the light of this world. Darkness and light cannot co-exist. God did not save us from the world; He saved us FOR the world. We certainly cannot be afraid to take on this challenge, because we have been given authority over darkness. It is with His mighty strength that we can do this.
So, remember, when your shift begins, although you might not know what it will entail, you can and will be a source of light to overshadow the darkness. Work as if you are working for the Lord and not for man. Make a difference today and every day knowing that your strength comes from the Creator of the world Himself.
